STYLE- December 2009
Interview with notorious 1970s groupie Bebe Buell The 1970s were a busy time for Bebe Buell. On top of being a model/singer, having highly publicized relationships with rock stars and giving birth to actress Liv Tyler, Buell served as one of the style icons for the decade. In a phone interview, she shared her thoughts on fashion and revealed her most recent accomplishments. “The 60s had been influenced by the British invasion,” Buell said. “But the 70s was unique and new.” It was the first decade to bring its trends from American influences, she said. “We got a lot of fashion from thrift stores,” Buell said of her groupie years. She mentioned that some of the key pieces included corsets and revealing tops. Much of the fashion established in the 1970s, she said, continued through the 1990’s and new millennium. This can be seen in the animal prints, flare jeans and mini dresses. “It still amazes me how animal print can still be so popular,” Buell said. Today Buell is still a busy woman with tour dates set up for her recent album, Sugar, which can be found on iTunes. |
