SEX COLUMN: Some awkward turtles...
by Caitlin Farrell (Unwind Contributor)

Having sex can be a completely magical experience, or it can result in terrifyingly awkward situations. Here are some of the more embarrassing situations I heard about on campus and what was done to get out of them.

For years, parents have accidentally walked in on their teenage kids having sex, and it never gets any less awkward, as freshman letters and sciences major Rachel can attest.

“One time, my boyfriend and I were having sex on my dad’s pool table in the basement. He came downstairs and we didn’t have enough time to grab our clothes before he saw us – it was so embarrassing!” The best thing to do any time you get interrupted is to just apologize to whoever walked in on you (preferably after you get dressed again).

Sometimes, all you need for an awkward situation is a long day and a lack of sleep. “My girlfriend was over, and all I wanted to do was watch a movie, but she wanted to do more,” Andrew, a sophomore engineering major, said.

“I was really tired, but when things started getting heated up, I thought I was awake enough. Turns out I was wrong because the next thing I know, she’s smacking me in the face. I guess I had fallen asleep.” Andrew handled the situation by making sure his girlfriend new that he had fallen asleep because he was incredibly tired, not because of any lack of excitement on his part.

Not only can sex be awkward, it can also be dangerous. “My girlfriend and I were having pretty intense sex and I was getting really into it…maybe a little bit too into it, actually, since I ended up putting a hole in the wall with my head,” Patrick, a business major, said.

“The worst part was I told my parents I had gotten mad about losing a videogame and punched the wall, and they decided to enroll me in anger management class.” While the truth definitely isn’t the easiest option for this situation, it would have saved Patrick a lot of time (and his parents a lot of money).

Awkward sex circumstances are bound to happen to everyone at some point. While at the time you may just want to crawl into a hole and die, hopefully at some point you will be able to look back and laugh at your situation, or at least resist the urge to cringe.
